Stephen Curry has been playing great as a rookie so far this year. The Golden State Warriors knew they were getting a great basketball player in Stephen Curry, but they were not sure how much he would contribute right away. Well, Curry has been playing very well in his young NBA career and the Warriors are happy they held on to him. Curry has brought his sweet stroke he had in college to the pros, as well as his high basketball IQ and quiet demeanor. Also, now unfortunately the Warriors have lost Anthony Randolph for 7-14 days. The Warriors will be without PF/SF Anthony Randolph for a week or two due to a sprained left ankle. He has played in 16 games (1 start) this season for the Warriors and he is averaging 21.4 minutes, 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 1.1 blocked shots. This will hurt the Warriors as Randolph is one of the better players on the team which is already thin due to injuries. In other news, the Warriors beat the Indiana Pacers, Warrios 126, Indiana Pacers 107, on December 1. Monta Ellis was on fire for the Golden State Warriors (6-10) last night, leading them to an easy win over the Indiana Pacers (6-9). Ellis had a career high 45 points on 15-27 shooting, and easily would have had 50+ if not for a questionable offensive foul call that fouled him out of the game. He also added 5 rebounds and 5 steals while the Warriors crushed the Pacers in the 4th quarter by 17 points to make it a blowout. Ellis has been an offensive machine for the Warriors lately, as he had 42 points against the Spurs two games ago. C.J. Watson had a great game off the bench for the Warriors, giving them 18 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Danny Granger was the top player for the Pacers with 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. The Warriors can definitely score some points, they just need to get better defensively before they can compete for a playoff spot. CJ.Watson now has the swine flu and is out for now. The Warriors will be without back up point guard C.J. Watson for a while as he has tested positive for the swine flu. Watson has played in 7 games (0 starts) for the Warriors this season and he is averaging 15.3 minutes, 5.9 points, 0.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steal per game. The Warriors will really miss Watson as they need all hands on the deck right now. And now the worst news of all, the Warriors have now lost Kelenna Azubuike for the year. The Warriors have lost SG/SF Kelenna Azubuike for the season due to a torn left patellar tendon. Azubuike played in 9 games (7 starts) for the Warriors this season and he averaged 25.7 minutes, 13.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.0 blocked shot per game. He also was shooting the ball great this season hitting 54.5% from the floor. This injury combined with the trade of Stephen Jackson to the Bobcats will hurt the offense of the Warriors.

Wilt Chamberlain

Wilt Chamrberlain is probably the greatest player in Warriors history. During his debut game for the Warriors the rookie center scored 43 points and had 28 rebounds. In his first season, Chamberlain averaged an amazing 37.6 points and 27 rebounds. Chamberlain won both the NBA Most Valuable Player and NBA Rookie of the Year awards in the same season and broke eight NBA records. Chamberlain capped off his rookie season awards by also winning the 196 NBA All-Star Game MVP award with a 23 point, 25 rebound performance for the East. Chamberlain surpassed his rookie season statistics as he averaged 38.4 points per game and 27.2 rebounds per game. He became the first player to break the 3,000-point barrier and the first and still only player to break the 2,000-rebound barrier for a single season, grabbing 2,149 boards. Chamberlain also won his first field goal percentage title, and set the all-time record for rebounds in a single game with 55. Chamberlain was so dominant on that team that he scored almost 32% of his team’s points and 30.4% of their rebounds. In the 1961–62 NBA season, he averaged 50.4 points and grabbed 25.7 rebounds per game. And perhaps most astounding, on March 2, 1962, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, Wilt scored 100 points, shooting 36 of 63 from the field, and making 28 out of 32 free throws against the New York Knicks.

Rick Barry

In Barry’s first season in the NBA with the Warriors, the team improved from 17 to 35 victories. In the All-Star Game one season later, Barry erupted for 38 points as the West team stunned the East squad, which featured Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell and head coach Red Auerbach among other all-time greats. the 6’7″ Barry won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award after averaging 25.7 points and 10.6 rebounds per game in the 1965-66 season. The following year, he won the 1967 NBA All-Star Game MVP award with a 38-point outburst and led the NBA in scoring with a 35.6 point per game average — which still ranks as the eighth- highest output in league annals. Teamed with star center Nate Thurmond in San Francisco, Barry helped take the Warriors to the 1967 NBA Finals, which they lost to the Philadelphia 76ers in six games. Including a 55-point outburst in Game 3, Barry averaged 40.8 points per game in the series, an NBA Finals record that stood for three decades.

Chris Mullin

During Mullin’s playing days with the Warriors he was chosen as a 1992 All-NBA First Team selection, a two time 1989, 1991 All-NBA Second Team selection, a 1990 All-NBA Third Team selection, a five time NBA All-Star selection, and a 1984 and 1992 two time Olympic Gold Medalist.

Guy Rodgers

In the 1962–63 season, Rodgers led the NBA in assists with an average of 10.4 per game, and played in his first NBA All-Star game. On March 14 of that same season, Rodgers tied Bob Cousy’s record of 28 assists in a single game — a record that wasn’t broken until nearly 15 years later. He was a 4-time NBA All-Star (1963–1964, 1966–1967).

Nate Thurmond

With the Warriors, Thurmond was an aggressive rebounder-defender who played at the forward position opposite superstar Wilt Chamberlain or was his backup at center. Despite playing on the same team as the dominant Chamberlain, Thurmond made an impact and was named to the NBA All-Rookie Team in 1964. When Wilt Chamberlain was traded to the new Philidelphia franchise, Nate Thurmond was finally the All Star center he was aid to be. Among his many accomplishments, Thurmond still holds the regular season record for rebounds in a quarter with 18. He averaged 21.3 and 22.0 rebounds per game in the 1966-67 and 1967-68 seasons — season averages exceeded by only Bill Russell and Chamberlain in NBA history. Thurmond placed second to Chamberlain in the MVP balloting in the 1966-67 season, and averaged over 20 points per game each season from 1967-68 through 1971-72, and played in seven NBA All-Star Games while with the Warriors. However, while star players like Rick Barry and Jerry Lucas came and went, the Warriors were unable to win a championship with Thurmond at center. Thurmond was also an excellent passing center and was well known as the best screen setter in the league for many years. In 1996 he was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History, and he remains one of the greatest rebounders and shot blockers in basketball history. His jersey number, 42, has been retired by the Warriors and Cavaliers. Nate Thurmond was enshrined in the NBA Hall of Fame on July 1, 1985.

Jason Richardson

Richardson competed in the Rookie Challenge as a rookie in 2002 and a sophomore in 2003. His teams won both years, and he was awarded the Rookie Challenge MVP as a rookie. As a sophomore, he had a memorable moment when, in the closing seconds of the game, he bounced the ball off Carlos Boozer’s forehead and then made a three-pointer before the clock ran out. During his time with Golden State, Richardson gained popularity for his outstanding scoring, ability to dunk, dedication to the team and fans, and ethical maturity. The long time captain of the Warriors, Richardson organized a letter of apology to Warrior fans after the team failed to make the playoffs for the 12th straight season. The letter ran in several Bay Area newspapers. The following year, Richardson helped lead the Warriors to their first playoff game in 13 years. They won in the first round, upsetting the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks, but lost in the second round to the Utah Jazz. Although no longer playing for Golden State, Richardson remains one of the most popular players among Warrior fans because of his electric style of play and ability to shoot three-pointers, as well as the longevity and tenor of his tenure with the team. Richardson set the Warrior franchise record for three-pointers made in a game without missing (8) in a home win against the Phoenix Suns. Richardson is especially known for his high-flying abilities and is widely regarded as one of the best dunkers in the NBA today. He won the NBA Slam Dunk Contests in 2002 and 2003, joining Michael Jordan as the only players to have won in consecutive years. Richardson competed in the 2004 contest as well but lost to Fred Jones in the finals.

There is a lot of histroy behind this amazing team throughout the years. The most famous players that played for the Warriors include some of the greatest players of all time. These players include Wilt Chamberlain, Tom Meschery, Al Attles, Rick Barry, Nate Thurmond, Chris Mullin, Adonal Foyle, Guy Rodgers, Jason Richardson, Larry Smith, Paul Arizin, Mitch Richmond and Chris Webber. Most of these players still hold franchise records and none of them currently play for the Warriors. The Warriors were founded in Philidelphia Pennsylvania in 1946 as the Philidelphia Warriors. They played for about 6 yearsin Philidelphia until they got relocated to San Francisco and were renamed the San Francisco Warriors and were playing most of their games in the Cow Palace in Daly City. Then in the 1963-64 season they won the Western Conference title but then losing to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, four games to one. Durng the 1965-66 year they traded Wilt Chamberlain away and got Rick Barry as the first round draft pick and was named Rookie of the Year during his first year in the NBA and then led the team to the NBA Finals were they lost to the team that had replaced them in Philidelphia, the 76ers. During the 1971-72 season the San Francisco Warriors had now changed their name to the Golden State Warriors and had moved in to the Oaklnad Coliseum Arena were they are also currently located. The Warriors made the playoffs from 1971 to 1977 (except 1974), and won their only championship on the West Coast in 1974–75. In what many consider to be the biggest upset of all time against the very heavily favored Washington Bullets in a four game sweep. Because of the loss of key players such as Barry, Wilkes and Thurmond, to bad trades and retirements, the Warriors would struggle to put a competitive team on the court from 1978-1987 following their time as one of the NBA’s dominant teams during the 1960s and throurgh most of the early and mid 1970s. They would, however, through the draft acquire such standout players such as high-scoring forward Purvis Short (1978), former Georgetown Hoyas point guard Eric “Sleepy” Floyd (1982) (who would later become an All-Star before being traded to the Houston Rockets), and former Purdue University standout center Joe Barry Carroll, (1980) whose once promising career would be short-circuited because of injury, as well as center Robert Parish(1976), whom they would trade to the Boston Celtics in 1980. But then a resurgence came when the Warriors drafted the stand out sharp-shooting small forward out of St. John’s University out of the 1985 NBA Draft, Chris Mullin. Then the Warriors made the 1987 Western Conference Semifinal Match agains Magic Johnson’s Lakers which is still shown on TV on the show “NBA’s Greatest Games” series. Webber, Sprewell and Nelson soon left the team after this and their leaving set the organziation into a tail spin and during the 1994-95 season they struggled to a 30-52 finish. After the Gary St. Jean GM era Chris Mullin took his spot at GM and helped to start rebuilding the broken organization. Chris Mullin made key trades and pickups and hoped to build the team around Jason Richardson, Troy Murphy and Mike Dunleavy Jr.. Also complementing these three players were Derek Fisher, Calbeart Cheney, Adonal Foyle, Andris Biedrins and Baron Davis who was the first superstar on the Warriors since Chris Mullin himself. They entered the 2005-06 season with a winning percentage for the first time since 1994, but lost their first five games of 2006 and managed to win only 13 more games through the end of March. Star Baron Davis often found himself at odds with coach Mike Montgomery. Furthermore, Davis failed to remain healthy and played in just 54 games. He suffered a sprained right ankle in mid-February and did not return for long before being listed as an inactive player the remainder of the season. The injury-prone Davis had not played a full season since the 2001–02 campaign until the 07–08 season in which he played all 82 games averaging 21.8 points a game (incidentally a contract year). On April 5, 2006, the Warriors were officially eliminated from playoff contention with a 114–109 overtime loss to the Hornets, extending their playoff drought to 12 seasons. Entering the 2006-07 season the Warriors had a strong team wth Don Nelson a healthy Baron Davis, an ever-improving Jason Richardson, and future stars Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins. Also Mullin had traded for sharp shooting forwards Al Harrington and Stephen Jackson. On April 18, 2007, the Warriors clinched their first playoff bid since 1994 with a resounding 120–98 victory in their season finale at Portland. The Warriors closed out the regular season (42–40) with a 16–5 ending run. During the run, they beat Eastern top seed Detroit Pistons 111–93, snapping their 6-game losing streak and notching their first win on the tail end of a back-to-back. The Warriors also ended the Dallas Mavericks’ 17-game win streak with five players recording double digits. “We Believe” became the Warriors’ slogan for the last couple months of the season and the playoffs. The Warriors first playoff series was aginst the very heavily favored Dallas Mavericks. The Warriors eliminated the Mavericks and became the first #8 seed to beat a #1 seed in a seven-game series. This was the Warriors’ first playoff series win in 16 years. The Warriors went on to play the Utah Jazz in the second round of the 2006–07 playoffs. In the end, the physical play of the Jazz simply wore down the smaller Warriors. In the end, the physical play of the Jazz simply wore down the smaller Warriors and the Warriors were eliminated from the playoffs. During the 2007-08 season the Warriors traded away Jason Richardson and with Jackson’s suspension the Warriors had a tough year and did not make the playoffs. During the offseason the Warriors lost Baron Davis to the Clippers and signed 19-year-old center Anthony Randolph, strong forward Corey Maggette, and shot blocking center Ronny Turiaf. During the 2008-09 season the Warriors traded Al Harrington to the Knicks for Jamal Crawford. As the youngest team in the NBA, the Warriors were ranked second in the league in scoring averaging 108.6 points per game. The Warriors had a disappointing 2008–2009 season, finishing 29–53. Now we are in the midst of the 2009-10 season and the Warriors have drafted Stephen Curry, signed Acie Law and Speedy Claxton, traded Marco Bellineli for Devon George, and Stephen Jackson and Acie Law were traded for Raja Bell and Vladimir Radmonovic. As you can see the Warriors have a very great history behind them and ab bright future ahead of them.

Hey guys, I just created my blog and I am really excited to start blogging. I am a huge Golden State Warriors fan and I will always be one. I am starting this blog because I love the Warriors and I want to share my love for them with all you readers and even convert you over to even being a Warriors fan. Event though they aren’t THAT great as we said in the playoffs the year they upset the Mavericks “WE BELIEVE!” I live in the Bay Area so I get to see alot of their games and I have met all of the current players. I have been a fan of them for my whole life. I am a huge athelete I play basketball and baseball right now at my highschool and I am just starting my basketball season and I have my first preseason game today. I believe that Warriors have a chance for a playoff birth this year with Monta Ellis back and leading the team and now that we have Stephen Curry along with Anthony Morrow and Anthony Randolph with more experience our team looks solid. Now that they have traded Stephen Jackson away I think that the Warriors are more of a team without him jacking up 3-pointers when they are not needed and being ejected from multiple games a season. For this year I plan to go to a couple of Warriors game, I wish I had season tickets, and cheer them on for their very strong future with all of the young talent that they have. I think that the main player the Warriors need right now because they have way to many guards is a dominate center. Turiaf, and Biedrens have not been getting it done and Anthony Randolph is still so young and needs much more discipline and experience. Also another thing that I think the Warriors are missing are a good coach. Don Nelson is such an unpredictable coach and even though he is very close to the all time coach with the most wins he plays his players on whether he likes them or not rather based on their skill. The Warriors need to get rid of their coach if they expect to make the playoffs. Now that Kellenna Azubuike is out for the season with his knee injury the other younger guards must step up if they expect to do well in the Western Conference which is loaded with tough teams. Even though they are one of the youngest teams in the NBA the Warriors have a chance to make the playoffs. Monta Ellis has shown his great leadership ever since Stephen Jackson left and what Monta Ellis said at the beginning of the season about not being able to play along side Stephen Curry appears not to be true because they are acting as a great team currently. I am very excited for this season and to watch the Warriors try to step up their game and try to accomplish their goal this year: making the 2010 NBA Playoffs.
